Suyapa is from the department of La Paz, who fell in love with José Luis Suazo Rodriguez of the village La Laguna, San Sebastián, which is in the department of Comayagua, where she now has her farm called El Retoño in honour of her young son Luis.
The farm belonged to the mother of her husband, who allowed them to manage and support the family. With the passing of the years, they bought over other plots and have been planting more coffee since.
Suyapa participated in COE for the first time recently and she expressed how wonderful and motivating the experience was to her. Through IHCAFE, she received technical assistance and currently she uses soil analysis to determine the nutritional needs of the crop. Oftentimes, it takes two fertilizations to keep the farm clean and free of pests and diseases.
Suyapa dreams of improving her farm and milling station such that she can continue to produce specialty coffee and progress into the international market. Her determination serves as an example to other coffee producers, as they are also encouraged to offer the best quality coffee in Honduras.
